Athletes always wanted to improve their performance. This is as true of the simplest events as it is of the very complex field events such as pole vaulting. The development of coahcing in Scotland since the War in 1945 is interesting and maybe a guide to the thinking of the SAAA Committees and the professional coaches who came along afterwards. We have some coverage of the development of coaching courses and schemes up to the very successful Edinburgh Commonwealth Games of 1970 when the progress made could be clearly seen.
